Cyber insurance - What's at stake?
We have all, I am sure at some point, received an e-mail asking us to enter or validate our credentials, or to click on a link to pay for or renew a subscription to a service, subject to losing access to it.
These are just two of the better known malicious forms of attack used by cyber-criminals to target individuals or companies.
With the increase in internet traffic and data exchange, cyber criminals’ appetites to fool us have also grown. Given this situation, the European Council is strengthening its capacity in this area, to consolidate the EU’s digital leadership and strategic capabilities, and underpin that cyber security is essential to building a resilient, ecological, and digital Europe.
To find out what the role of insurers is in this area, where they can be both victims and protective agents, I spoke with two experts in the field from everis Portugal: Nuno Castro, Head of Insurance Practice, and Mauro Almeida, who is responsible for information security and cyber-security.
The importance and scope of the subject led to a long conversation split into three articles across this edition.
I hope to help readers understand this critical matter better, that is not only highly relevant, but also rapidly evolving.
