In March, we launched a new weekly newsletter that focuses on the increasingly prominent world of InsurTech.  Written by Rick Huckstep, MD for Europe for The Digital Insurer, Rick’s InsurTech weekly newsletter brings the latest news and commentary within InsurTech.  Rick interviews InsurTech start-ups from around the world in order to get to the heart of what is happening in the InsurTech space and adds his own perspective based off his 20+ years’ experience in insurance.

Each month, we continue to release new content in our Digital Insurance in Action section which is sponsored by KPMG.  We now have close to 100 articles in this section consisting of Snippets (short, concise summaries capturing digital insurance in action within companies) and InViews (more detailed examples of digital insurance in action, some of which also have videos which talk you through the initiative/innovation). Every month we aggregate our top Snippets and InViews in our Digital Insurance in Action Newsletter.

Each month, we also continue to review the latest digital insurance reports and white papers from across the globe in our Digital Insurance Library, sponsored by Swiss Re.  Here, you get access to all the latest research and content on the subject of digital insurance all in one place. 
We’ve had a busy quarter with lots of events.  You can keep up to date with the latest happenings and material in our Events section.  Here’s our top picks for the quarter:

1.    We are continuing to hold themed webinars with expert speakers and attendees from all across the globe. Our last webinar was on direct & digital life insurance in Asia.  You can listen to the replay from the link below as well as access the replays and material from previous webinars.

2.    The theme of our next webinar on the 13th April is direct & digital non-life insurance in Asia.  We have a great panel of speakers including Steven Mendel, CEO of Bought by Many, Mitch Doust from InsurTech start up, Trov and Xavier Blanchard, Regional CEO of AXA Assistance.  You can register below to attend and to get access to the replay.

3.    The Digital Insurer has attended and spoken at a number of events over the course of the quarter, including the Asian Financial Services Congress run by IDC Financial Insights, The Sunday Times Innovation & Technology Roundtable in London and The Insurance Technology Summit 2016 in Mumbai, organised by Fintelekt.  You can access some of the material from the events below. 




4.     The Digital Insurer Roundtable in Singapore, powered by Leo Tech, 22nd March, Singapore - At this private event, The Digital Insurer chaired a roundtable discussion on the topic of ” The impact of digital thinking on Product Design and Distribution models in Life Insurance”.  


5.   17th Asia Conference on Bancassurance & Alternative Distribution Channels, 10-11th May, Jakarta - The Digital Insurer will be speaking on trends in digital bancassurance.


6.    10th Annual Health Insurance Summit Asia 2016, 24th-27th May, Singapore - The Digital Insurer is looking forward to attend this leading Health Insurance Conference in May.


7.    FinTech Asia 2016, 30th May, Hong Kong - The Digital Insurer will be speaking on Digital Insurance trends in Asia.

With Rick Huckstep joining our team earlier this year we have launched his InsurTech Weekly newsletter. Rick’s skills and experience in start-ups in Insurance is valuable addition to our community and I hope you enjoy his weekly review – published every Thursday.

I am also pleased to announce collaboration with one of the most entertaining insurance commentators on insurance! Shefi has been running a daily blog called Insurance Entertainment and we are really pleased that we will exclusively publish Entertainment Weekly every week from April. So look out for the formal announcement. 

Andrew De Kock, who heads TDI in Africa, is planning to launch a monthly Africa newsletter.

Work on our news aggregator continues and the upgrade to the site is under development. We are aiming to launch next quarter likely in May . This new site will give our community the opportunity to post third party links on relevant news items around digital insurance.

Conferences and events


We continue to participate actively as speakers, moderators and panellists at events on or related to digital insurance. Visit Events for more information. With our global team we have an increased capability to help when needed.

I am also very pleased to formally announce we are likely to have a digital insurance conference in Hong Kong on October 5th. More information to come soon – we are going to take a risk and try and create an innovative conference format that attracts the people who are really passionate about digital insurance in Asia.

​Tech community - slowly but surely

We have revamped our Tech Community and have a clearer offering to technology companies looking to connect with our subscribers.  This includes free company and product listing services. Hint: if you are a start-up or scale-up in InsurTech then we can help you get publicity.



Growth and expansion - can you help?

Interest in digital insurance remains very high with a focus and demand for help on “how to” on digital insurance. Subscriber growth, and website traffic, has accelerated over the quarter and we have more than 9,000 subscribers with most growth being outside of Asia.

We are having discussions with new sponsor partners around the world and we hope to be able to make a number of announcements in the next quarter that will also open up more content development. Our sponsors help to ensure we have the resources to ensure we can continue to provide quality insights to you – so please support the events and engage with them as we all learn about digital insurance.

We have also finalised an internal review on organisational structure. We are aiming to add a content and client director in each region, an events co-ordinator in Hong Kong and are also building up our research hub in India.
