A word on bots and AI

The pace of change on chatbots is very impressive. Unlike other innovations such as analytics and blockchain the barriers to adoption are not high but the potential gains in terms of improving the quality of the customer interaction are. So, I think we will see an explosion of chatbot initiatives in both sales and claims, which is great. For me, a particular area of interest is the blending of an AI front end with a human-supported chat service.

I would add this is a relative comment, as both blockchain and analytics are progressing rapidly and will also be agents of considerable change!

The Digital Insurer Conferences

I am looking forward to the two annual conferences we have planned this year. We are repeating our Asia conference on November 2nd and are pleased to announce our first conference in Europe will go ahead on September 20th. Find out more here.

For both we will be replicating the format of our first conference in 2016 – great content delivered in a fast paced and interactive environment, with good networking opportunities for insurance executives interested in the topic of digital insurance. As you know we look at this topic very much from the insurer’s perspective and cover the broader challenges, opportunities, developments and technologies that decision makers need to consider.

Over the next few weeks we will be announcing the first set of speakers and focusing on building awareness for the Startup InsurTech and Insurance Innovation Awards. You can enter your nominations now for Europe and Asia.

New site

We have been working diligently on the makeover for the website and I am pleased this has now entered into production. We aim to get the new site launched by the end of the quarter. The focus is on two areas: improving the ability to search and find content, as well as providing more opportunities for people to engage directly on the topic of digital insurance.

Announcing our China news service

I am excited to be able to announce we will soon be introducing a monthly China newsletter. This will be available in English and Mandarin and we hope to bring the great stories on digital insurance from China to a broader audience, as well as bring stories from outside China to Chinese readers, via a new subscriber base that we will develop on WeChat. Supporting us on this journey, and as part of an exclusive sponsorship, Swiss Re will be the sole sponsor of this service. The first edition is planned for May - please stay tuned.

New research services

We have an initiative in progress for a new research service, which we hope to formally announce in May.

Conferences coming up

Check out the events page for the conferences the TDI team are involved in.

I am personally looking forward to a couple of events that I will be speaking at. The first is the Asia InsurTech Summit at the end of April, which will look at the startup end of the digital insurance spectrum, while the second is a Swiss Re client event where I have the opportunity to get out my crystal ball and try to fathom what health insurance might look like in 2035!
