As 2019 starts it is an opportunity for us to personally reflect on what we’ve achieved last year.

And industries are equally reflective about the direction they have been going in.

The common theme is that InsurTech is here and that while some have picked up the ball and are running with it, others are in danger of being left behind.

OK, so there’s nothing particularly revelatory about such a statement, but as with all things, it is all about context.

There seems to be a degree of consensus that InsurTech has not only arrived, but is about to begin another journey. One that will cement its role within insurance as the industry desperately seeks to transform itself into a digital business fit for the 21st century – and beyond.

As the reports below highlight, this second stage will happen over the coming year and so it really is time for those who have yet to commit to the project to make their minds up.

Another of the papers below looks at mutuals and the role they may play in the future. They face increasing regulatory oversight and may be forced to find alternatives means of raising capital in order to remain relevant and solvent in the future. However, the paper outlines areas where the particular customer focus of a mutual can offer examples of processes – and perhaps help to develop products – that distil best practice and popularity.
